Odd. I installed J6U7 today on two PCs. I saw (and unchecked) the Google
Toolbox (which has been there for several of the past updates as well) but
just saw an "ad" for Open Office. There was no check box to uncheck. I see
no Open Office installed on either PC after doing the java update.

I got the Open Office on one computer and the Yahoo tool bar on another.

Yes, it's only an ad for Open Office, not a download. It's also present in
the J6u6 update.

Peter, please could you give me the URL to download the update.

Many thanks

In addition to Peter's answer, and if you have a version of java on your
computer now, you can also check for and download/install updates by going
to Start/ControlPanel/Java/Update/UpdateNow.

Yeah, on mine it advertised Open Office, but offered to install the
Yahoo toolbar. I unchecked it. I don't think that kind of thing is
particularly honest.

Interesting. Mine wanted to install Google toolbar. I wish they would stop
bundling that crap.

Thanks

Noted. But everybody should develop the habit of reading the dialog
boxes whilst installing any software, update or otherwise.

And for curiosity's sake, just what is so wrong about Open Office?
There are none installed locally in this area but would be nice to
know of some personal experices, vis-a-vis Windows XP. TIA.

Of course. But it would take forever to read the license, and then you
still might not know what it said. They spend a lot of time and effort
making sure of that...

I know of nothing wrong with OO. But when you get a popup telling you
of an update to your Java installation, you expect to update your Java
software, not install a bunch of totally unrelated stuff.

And from what we've heard here, it wasn't just OO. They wanted to
install Yahoo toolbar on my machine, somebody else reported Google
toolbar.

Thank you. I noticed that as well. The reason I asked about Open Office
was in the event some of our uses decide to pop the question, just for
the heck of it. Not all of them are endeared to "supervisory controls".
