Ati X1950 crossfire problem

M

Mike Luihn

I'm doing my dream rig and I hit a snag.

In the box:
Asus P5W Dh Deluxe "New Bios"
Intel core 2 6700
2 gig memory
Ati TV wonder elite "Latest Drivers"
Sound blaster audigy 2
ATI X1950 Crossfire edition
ATI X1950XTX
750 Watt Power Supply
6.12 Drivers
Games that I play: BF 2142, BF2

Now, here's the problem when playing games they crash when in crossfire
mode. When not in crossfire mode you can't see the game except seeing only
flashes of the games. When I hook up the monitor cable to the Digital port
the games run find. I also have the new bios for the motherboard. So I hope
on Xmas day that someone will know the solution to this problem. Thanks in
advance and Merry Xmas to all....Mike

1. Obviously, make sure the Crossfire cable is plugged in properly. It only
goes in one way.
2. Make sure the Crossfire Edition card is in the upper PCIe slot (yellow).
3. Make sure the "Catalyst AI" is set to normal and not advanced mode.
4. If nothing works, try it without the Crossfire cable. Software Crossfire
is supported by the 6.12 drivers.

1. Check, it's in the the right port
2. Yes, it's in the first slot
3. Yes, it's set to normal
4. Where do I get the software crossfire?

Thanks for your help.

Before you attempt software Crossfire mode, there's one more thing to
check - make sure "temporal AA" is disabled and that VSync is "always on".

Also, you mentioned you have a 750 W PSU. Does it have a 24-pin ATX
connector?

If that doesn't help, follow these steps to run software Crossfire mode:
1. Uncheck Crossfire mode in Catalyst Control Center.
2. Power off and unplug PC. Remove Crossfire dongle cable.
3. Power up again.
4. Re-enable Crossfire mode in Catalyst Control Center. Communication
between the cards now entirely go through the PCIe bus.

Still could not get it to work in the crossfire mode, same problem with
games- no picture.
Tried to do the software solution and the enable crossfire does not work
because it says the cable to the crossfire card is not hooked up. May be I
have a bad card to do crossfire..
The new 750 watt PSU has a 24 pin connector. It's a Toughpower 750 watt..
On the software crossfire I put the monitor cable on the crossfire card
regular DVI connector. The box to check crossfire it cannot be enabled.

Thanks,

Mike

Hmm, that really shouldn't be the case... Is your monitor identified as
"monitor 1" in Catalyst Control Center?

BTW, since this is a new system build, I assume you had fresh installs of
BF2 and BF2142 (with no saved settings or game profiles)?

I uninstalled and reinstalled with saving setting and profiles I'll try a
complete uninstall and then try it. Also with 3D Mark05 does the same thing
with no screen only a flash on and off of the benchmark.
