I just installed an ATI TV Wonder VE capture card and it won't work
correctly. When I try to use the TV features, I get an error - The TV
player failed to initialize the video. I looked on the ATI site and it said
that Netmeeting could interfere with this. I uninstalled netmeeting and I
am still getting the error. Has anyone had this problem or know what might
fix it?

Thanks.

Are you sure the card and its TV function is compatible with with Windows 2000?

The ATI Wonder VE is Win2K compatible....

It is compatable, so I don't know why the error is occuring.

The reason why I asked is that I have an ATI All-in-Wonder card which has TV support. The card is supported in Windows 2000. The card is but not the TV function. So that is why I asked. Is the TV function of the card supported in Windows 2000? Mine requires an upgrade in drivers from ATI if I want to use their TV player. If I try to use it right now I get the errors you describe. If I put the updated drivers in from ATI (which are unsupported you know) then I do get the TV function but it sucks and causes other problems.

What is your regular video card ?

I use a ATI Rage 128 pro with my ATI Wonder VE.

The ATI site seems to have a pretty rich array of HowTos, FAQs, and even
some utilities, sorted by device (TVW V3), device type (multimedia),
system (W2k) and perhaps more. Maybe there's a pony in that pile
somewhere. I'll bet the problem is something simple that only you'll
recognize from remembering every step of how you installed the thing,
and what else has been done on the machine, and what if any clues exist
in places like event viewer and device manager and so on. Good luck, and
I hope someone here will post a less speculative response.

I have the VE card. It worked fine until I got a ATI 9700 and installed the
drivers for that. The multimedia drivers for the 9700 interfered. I still
have not gotten the VE to work.

The video card I have is Cirrus Logic Laguna 5465. Could this be the problem?

On the ATI site, it says the following:

ATI-TV WONDER series is compatible with all graphics sub-systems supporting DirectX® overlay, including products from the following manufacturers:

a.. ATI
b.. NVIDIA
c.. S3
I've gone through the articles on the ATI site, but I can't seem to figure out what the problem is.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Could be.

What version of DirectX are you using ? The latest is v9.0B

Thanks.

What would I look for in Event Viewer that would give me an idea of what the
problem might be?

That's what I have.
