According to our sources inside AMD, the company will cut prices on their Athlon processors tonight while we're all sound asleep (and some of us are still on our computers, but that's besides the point).

These aren't just small price cuts either. According to some sources, the price of the 2200+ will be cut by about $35 - $40 US making it widely available for about $160 - $165 US at major internet vendors.

Interesting how AMD is remaining agressive with their prices, even though they didn't turn a profit in the last quarter. I'm speculating that this might be due to the fact that Barton is coming within the next few weeks, and might actually have a 333mhz bus speed (166mhz dual-pumped). We already know it will feature a 512k L2 cache (over the current 256k) and will probably be released in speeds of 2400+ and 2600+. According to reports, the difference in clock speed between the two will be as little as 66mhz, which goes to show that the K7 architecture is an amazing accomplishment that could be pushed on for a long time to come.

Clawhammer cometh, however. See the recent news article for more details on that.
