I just updated my Win 2K machine with the latest critical
update from Microsoft. When I reboot the system, it
gives me an error that reads "Boot from Atapi Cd-Rom:
failure" and the screen goes blank and never enters
windows. Is there a fix for this?

Hi Peter

This Error means that your PC tried to boot from CD and failed, as there was
no CD or no bootable CD in your CD Drive. Usually, after the BIOS has
detected that there is no bootable CD in the CD Drive, it should try to boot
from the Harddisk.

What you should try first is to ensure your CD Drive contains no CD when
starting up.

Please check with your BIOS Settings, if you have selected the HDD in the
Start Options. To enter the BIOS you have to press a certain keep just when
the PC boots (usually either 'del' or 'F2'). There you can review your
Settings and see if you HDD is among the Boot Options.

I advise that you should use the following boot sequence: 1: Floppy; 2: HDD
(Harddisk); 3: CD (ATAPI/SCSI)

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio
