whenever attending a meeting, when there are multiple people lined up
sequentially to deliver a presentation, people always fumble at the
transition to close the current presentation, search for the new
presentation, and reactivate slide show. This may take a minute.

While savvy users could create a hyperlink, it would be ideal if there were
an easy link tool for beginner users to create a link to the next
presentation in slide show mode, then that next presentation could be
activated from the black screen.

this would be simple to implement and would have high value for these types
of sessions, which are frequent

How about creating a Chairman's" presentation which lists all the speakers
and has hyperlinks to their presentations. As each presentation ends, ppt
will return to the chairman's agenda slide.

I have done this quite successfully when presenting an all day seminar with
8 presentations with some comfort breaks! Admittedly I was the only speaker
and chairman as well.

Good idea! I will do this in the future.
My point is that Microsoft should build a simple tool that will do this for
the masses

Well, you have to keep in mind that a relatively small percentage of the masses
have a regular need for this. Like any other company, MS jumps higher and
faster when more people demand a feature.

MS has done us all a huge favor by including the ability to write little
programs in PPT so that we can create our own new features. Like this one that
basically does what you're after, I think:

Create an index or table of contents (TOC) with links to a folder full of PPT
files
