Asus P4C800 Deluxe Random Shutdown

Cires

Hi All,

Just built a new system round a P4C800 mobo.
3Ghz Intel P4
2x256 DDR400
550w psu
Leadtek 5900 video card
1 x Samsung 120Gb SATA drive
Windows XP sp1

Bugger keeps doing random shutdows on me. Can be after 5 mins or 50 mins.
CPU temp is normally around 37 deg.
Tried prime 95 torture test, shuts down within 10 secs of the test that uses
lots of memory.
Using 3dMark, it does it whilst loading the second game test.
Happens sometimes whilst surfing the web.

Also got corrupt file messages when trying to install software! Disabled
hyperthreading and took out one stick of mem and that seems to have stopped.

Not o/c'ed in any way, defaults in BIOS apart from Hyper Threading disabled
and Raid controller.

Parts from different suppliers so would like to know which one to blame (the
part not the supplier)

Help!

Seems to me that your memory sticks are not a matched pair. If that is the
case you'll have to use them in single channel mode or get them replaced by a
matched pair.

I would have to agree with the other chaps and say that you need
better ram, and then I think you will be very happy with your
computer.

It wouldn't hurt to run MEMTEST32 v3.0. It boots from a floppy and
will test your memory. You must disable the promise controller in
BIOS before running memtest or you will get errors which are not
real.

Hi guys,

Changed the memory, but still the same. Set the FSB lower so it's running as
a 2.8ghz and it seems more stable, but I don't know if that proves much.
Should I be upping the voltages? Would that help?

bye,
