Hello,

I try to install Windows Vista on my PC. At the beginning of the
installation I had a blue screen: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
If i disable Cool & Quiet function and ACPI support I succeeded in starting
the installation, but then I have a black screen with the error message : an
unknown error occurred.

Ideas ?

What PC?

I installed Vista Beta 2 on a PC with Asus K8N-E Deluxe Rev.1.05 BIOS
1012.007, with Athlon 64 3000+, 1 GB PC3200 MDT CL2.5, a Hitachi
SATA2-HDD 160 GB, and a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB,
from within WinXP SP2 on a clean 25 GB partition into a dual boot
configuration... without any BSOD.

So what are the differences to your config?

May be I should have added that I installed Vista on a clean NTFS
partition and let Vista install its video card driver which is an ATI
7.7.9.0.

C'n'Q: yes, ACPI: no.

Is your Hitachi HDD o.k.? (I remember an IBM HDD which was fine for
Win98 but was not accepted by Win2000...)

Mysterious Vista;-)

I found ;)

It's my CD-RW which caused the problem. I can start to install Vista now.
Thank you very much, because you put to me on the track (I remember an IBM
HDD which was fine for Win98 but was not accepted by Win2000...)
