ASUS A8V and Neo HE Power Supply

Geoff

I got my P180, AMD dual core 4400, Zalman fan, and an Antec Neo power
supply.

I removed my board from my old system, installed the new cpu and fan and
peripherals.

Got the power supply in place, turned the computer on, and it shut off right
away.

I figured it is the fan, cpu, or power supply, so, I connected my old power
supply up, and the computer ran 1 hour, no problems.

I reconnected the Neo Power supply, and 2 hard drives only. The computer
ran for about 10 minutes then shut off.

I checked the Antec web site and found:

http://www.antec.com/us/support_roductInfo_FAQ.php?Qnumber=1&FAQno=22

.. . . which says:

We have received multiple reports of such issues, and ASUS and Antec
technical teams have been able to confirm the existence of a random problem.
If you believe you have encountered this incompatibility, please do the
following:
1. Update your motherboard BIOS to the latest version. This step solves the
incompatibility problem in a majority of cases.
2. If you have successfully updated your BIOS and still encounter the
compatibility issue, please contact Antec Customer Support for a replacement
power supply unit that has implemented a fix for the "ASUS motherboard
problem."

.. . . so, am I victim of the antec/asus problem? Is it worth asking antec
for a new one with the 'fix' on it or just retunr it to NewEgg?

Thanks.

I'm sure Newegg has a special dumpster in the back, where they store the
returned NeoHE power supplies. I'd return it. Why go through the hassle
of dealing with Antec ? If you can return a defective product, then use
the opportunity. Stuff in Newegg inventory, should already have been
fixed, if there was a way to fix it. When this first happened, people
receiving Antec power supplies, received them with a broken warranty
sticker, which means Antec staff in North America were repairing the
units, before shipping them onward to retailers. They've had plenty of
time to get their contract manufacturer to implement the same fix,
so by this time, the warranty sticker should be intact. (And why
they could not have placed another sticker on the units, is a real
puzzle. It is just a sticky label, so they can tell if the user
has removed the lid.)

In one thread I was reading, while mostly Asus boards are involved,
more than Asus brand motherboards have been affected. Which kinda
tells you whose fault it is. The customer reviews on Newegg may give
you some more feedback. You didn't say which model you have.
