Asus A8N-SLI Premium

Does someone have experiece with the Asus A8N-SLI Premium yet? Reviews I
read said it had still very severe issues, like various boot problems,
PATA/SATA disk corruption, etc.

But in the latest review, at:

http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.cfm?articleid=704&cid=3

I see not of these issues mentioned. Could it be they are all resolved?

Reivews rarely ever tell you anything about the "issues"
unless they just happened to use it long-term first and
randomly chose hardware that had issues. Instead, reviewers
almost always use very common and basic configurations which
are likely tested by motherboard manufacturer in the first
place.

To get most up to date info and perspective visit a web
forum with a motherboard category like at

BTW, you need not concentrate on only the Premium A8N
version to find out a lot of info about a board, much of it
should apply to the whole A8N family.

Thanks for the links. My, it looks there are even more issues with the board
than I thought!

Sigh. I am having a real hard time finding a decent AMD PCI-E board, that is
not either unstable or comes with an excessively loud northbridge fan. I
looked into the ASUS P5WD2. Great board, but Intel based, unfortunately.
:( There has got to be some good ones out there for AMD!

Thanks,

- Mark

There are a lot of peopld on those boards that really push,
poke and prod boards - sometimes the sheer numbers of users
and their complex configurations result in more evident
problems, though any modern board with a large user base
will turn up a fair # of problems. Main thing is to weed
through the problems and determine if any will significantly
effect you- no board is perfect, particularly more issues
the more features a board has.

If the fan is the only thing stopping you, look into a
Zalman passive NB fan or just reuse some old Pentium 1
heatsink.

Been looking for a good board for an AMD 64 myself,a lot of the problems I
see mentioned are either due to overclocking(which I'm not into)or the
chipset fan on the Deluxe model, which I understand has been replaced on the
newer boards. The Premium model uses a heatpipe instead of a fan,the only
issue I've heard of with that is when it's installed in a case like the
Silverstone where the board is basically upside down.Another advantage with
the Premium is that you can enable or disable SLI through the
software, instead of having to open the case and set jumpers, which is the
case with other SLI boards.
