ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe

I have the ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe and AMD Winchester 3000 processor in my new
system. When trying to install Win XP, I get lockups, crashes, etc. The BIOS
ver is 1011. Are there any known issues with this BIOS and processor?

Thanks
Kevin

Yep, I'm using Corsair XMS memory. I have not changed any of the settings in
the BIOS.

try with a no-name memory... if it works, load the latest BIOS (1015.001)
This is what I have done with my Corsair mem...
with the 1015.001 no pb at all now.
My mem is set to 3-3-3-7 2T

I did. I put a 256 stick of some cheap PQI brand memory. I works like a
dream. I sure hope I can get it to work with my Corsair because a have two
512 sticks I would like to use.

Thanks so much,
Kevin

The Asus website says to update the chipset driver before updating the BIOS;
howeber, I cannot find the version of chipset driver they recommend?

The latest official BIOS is 1014. 1015.xxx is a beta bios I wouldn't
recommend using a beta BIOS for an initial intsallation

You might try just a bare minimum install. MB, CPU, ram. PSU, HD, KB, mouse
outside of the case

Try something like set-up defaults in the exit menu of the bios, make sure
everything is set to auto. Check your temps in the BIOS and make sure
nothing is overheating

What power supply are you using?

What version of windows? Where is the first crash occurring on installation?
Have you reformatted the hard drive before reinstalling

Tell us what hardware you are using.

And let us know what the fix is

You still need to troubleshoot that memory, especially if the lockups
and crashes are random.
1. Memtest86
2. Pull first one stick, then the other, and try different RAM slots
to see if that identifies a bad stick.

This Corsair memory works fine in my older ASUS machine (A7N8X) and passes
mem tests. My A8N-SLI does not work with this memory at present. Works great
with this cheaper PQI memory. I'm hopeing a BIOS upgrade or a change in the
memory settings will resolve this.

Thanks
