Asus A7N8X Deluxe Issues

CK

Hi all

I have a new ASUS A7N8X Deluxe Motherboard that I am running with a new AMD
Athlon Thunderbird 2.8Ghz, however with this CPU in it it boots and then
before anyting is displayed it shuts down totally, works fine with a AMD
Athlon 1.2Ghz chip though.

Please advise what the issue may be as I am really wanting to get this all
up and running as soon as possible. Have sent an email to Asus but as yet
got no reply.

Are there any beeps, voice reporter during POST? Hvae you tried re-seating
CPU, reapplying thermal paste HSF - could be the COP protect. What ram are
you using, how much, how many banks? We need more info on the system build
to help direct you with this one.

BTW, thunderbird stop at 1.4Ghz, you maybe mean torougbred... (god thi
spelling is surely deficient...)

Another thing, be sure that the front side bus is set to 333mhz (166mhz)

There is no 2.8 gig one, 2800 is not 2.8, it's just a rating.
A 2400 is not 2.4, a 2600 is not a 2.6....................................

FSB is set to Jumpers 1&2 by default which according to the manual support
the following speeds. FSB 400/333/266. So I have just left it there for now,
trying the BIOS updates now but I dont think that it is going very well,
seems to have stopped 75% of the way and just sitting there with a message
saying Please Wait

Yeah but you need to set the speed in bios no??? All nforce2 boad I saw was
like that, there is a confi in bios to change the FSB.....

On this board the FSB Speed is done via a jumper on the board from what I
can see, cant see anything in the BIOS about it, however will read over the
manual covering that section just to be sure.
But to be honest that is the last resort then it goes back to the suppliers.

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

No it's not.
All the jumper is for is to set FSB 400/333/266 (DEFAULT), or to fsb200
only.
The other settings are in bios (on page 55 in manual).

Power Supply is a 300W , not sure of any other details as I am at work now,
as for the BIOS issue, I cant get into the BIOS even it just shuts down
before it even gets that far.

Power Supply is a 300W , not sure of any other details as I am at work now,
as for the BIOS issue, I cant get into the BIOS even it just shuts down
before it even gets that far.
First, clear your BIOS via the jumper setting (disconnect power, move
jumper, blah blah blah). Second, REMOVE one of those memory modules.
To get this board up and running you need to eliminate possible
variables and that memory combo is definitely suspect. Third,
reconnect the power, start it up and GO DIRECTLY to the BIOS
(hopefully it will now get that far). Once in th eBIOS, the ONLY thing
you want to change is the date & time. Fourth, save your BIOS and see
if the board comes all the way up with the default settings.

Now if the board comes all the way up, you can be almost 100% sure
there are no CPU/MOBO hardware issues and you can start tweaking your
BIOS settings. BTW what are the COMPLETE specs on those two memory
modules? Just a suggestion, but you may want to view some of the other
messages here in which folks supply the system specs and emulate those
such as
MB = A7N8X Deluxe Revision 2
BIOS = PCB Rev. 2 Ver. 1007
CPU = Athalon XP +2500 (Barton)
Memory = 2 Corsair CMX512-3200C
Graphics = ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
PSU = Antec 400W
HD = 1 WD 120@7200, 1 WD 200@7200

The important thing is to let everyone know as much detail as possible
so you don't have to banter back & forth trying to relay the
information.

I hope the steps I have provide will get you up & running. If not,
post a reply as to what steps you did take and what results you had.

try resetting the BIOS by removing the battery for a few seconds and
hitting the power button a few times.
