I had to do a reinstall of a Dell PC because the software was in a bad
shape. I used the recovery disk and reformatted the drive. Everything is
good now except I cannot figure out how to import the old user named folder
so that it is recognized by the os. The PC is set up for one user. Even
though the folder under documents and settings matches the logged on user
name, it's as if it is looking in another folder for the favorites. I've
browsed through numerous posts about changing user names and setting the SID
userid. Nothing I've tried seems to do the trick. Can it be this
complicated?

Thanks for your reply.

When you did the reinstall, the installation process gave your user name to
another Security ID. The user name is merely an alias for the SID; hence
the old files no longer belong to you.

This subject is discussed in Help & Support as "How to take ownership of
files and folders."

Thanks Jim, I'll take a look at that.
