In the AssemblyInfo.cs file, what exactly is the AssemblyConfiguration
used for?

To specify custom information particular to the build, most commonly whether
it is a debug or release build, but you could put any information you want
in there, e.g. whether it was built for 1.1 or 2.0, whether built for
Windows/Mono/Rotor and so on.
