Assembly Database Design

Can someone lead me to a place where I an learn how to develop an Assembly
Database Design. An Assembly being something made up of a bunch of
sub-assemblies and components and could possibly have several levels of
sub-assemblies. A complex examble would be a car which is made up of several
sub-assemblies and a bunch of components. My need is for a lesser assembly
but I need to understand how to put together a data model for this type of
database. I appreciate any direction provided.
