asp.net, apache, iis, etc ?

Are asp.net application limited to running on microsoft's internet
information server ?

Or can it run on for example apache as well ?

Or other populair established webservers ?

I think there are some plugins for Apache to run ASP.net. The one way I know
about is "Mono". Find more info at http://www.mono-project.com/
