Asking for activation code 3 years on

N

Neil Jones

Hope this is the relevant group!

Switched on my desktop yesterday and a message appeared asking me to
register/activate my copy of XP Home...? I followed the instructions which
led to options: 1 activate over net? - 2 activate over phone? - 3 log off
(the PC is 3 years old and as far as I can remember this has all been done)
The last mod I did was install Nero 6 for my new ext dvd burner.

What should I do (may seem like a daft question) as I have no net connection
should I try the telephone method - will someone [Microsoft] give me an
activation code?

TIA

Neil

Hi,

Use the phone option, they should reactivate for you. Did the Nero software
create a virtual drive? If so, that may be why the prompt appeared.

Silly question but did your clock/date somehow reset? Had an issue like
that once and it de-activated certain softwares of mine....set the clock
back right because of a bad motherboard battery and all was well
again....

I was testing the latest version of Nero a couple of weeks back. Sure
enough, after installing and rebooting, I also was asked to validate my
system. This was on a system that has had no hardware changes in over 11
months.

Needless to say, I reloaded a Ghost image that I had created prior to
installing Nero - one which included Roxio Easy Media Creator.

I guess I won't be touching Nero again! (-:

I see no reason that it should, unless this is just another FLAW in
activation.

LOL! You would not have had a problem at all, with an OS with no PA.

I have successfully installed Nero Ultra 6.6 and Roxio Easy Media Creator
7.5 without issues with the Activation.

Why would Nero software do that? I just thought xp would only detect
hardware changes not software changes.

Always a good idea when doing a big install. I must try it sometime.

Yeah, I did a backup and put CD-sized fines on my USB drive. Nero
makes me jump through a bunch of hoops to get the files to CD! Next
time I'll do the whole backup right to CDsin the first place.

Hi kurt,

Or a flaw in Nero. Actually, my thinking was that an additional virtual
drive is treated like hardware (by design), so if there were enough
cumulative changes it might trigger reactivation. I haven't messed with
Nero6 yet, so can't relate any first hand experience. Not that it's right,
but reactivating should only be a minor issue anyways.

I would seriously doubt it. Nero installs don't touch PA files, so it
would almost have to be the PA code that has a problem.

A PITA, and an unnecessary one at that.

Bet ya' $AUD 20.00 it's Windows PA and not Nero.... Let's arse-ume your
right Mr. Nutcase, it is Nero, why would that be a flaw in Nero? And not the
Genius who thought of PA?

Except your asked why you're activating this copy of WinXP again, like
it's their business, especially in this situation. Maybe Ahead software
will do it for you!, cause it may be their flawhorhorhorhahahahBWHAAAAA]
