Hi,
My OS is XP with Multilingual User Interface Pack.

1. If I make a backup of xp with Multilingual User Interface Pack,
i) Can the backup be applyed to a *English* version of xp *without MUIP?
ii) Can the backup file be applyed to a *non-English* version of XP?

2. Why the backup of one language version of XP can not be compatible with
another language version of XP?

Thank you in advance.

No.

No.

Different files, different registry entries because of the MUIP. The
only files that can be safely backed up and restored from one language
version to another are those that are common to both. Backup programs
are not able to tell the difference.

Regards.

Thank you. CS.
For question 1.i) the original backup is in English (just with multilingual
user interface pack), why can't it be applyed to an English version of XP
whether it was with MUIP or not?

The MUIP, as CS said, changes the registry to the point that it is too
different to work on a non-MUIP machine of the same language.

Hi,

What type of backup is this? System state backup including the
operating system files, or just user data files?

If the latter, you should have no problem restoring to another
type of Windows XP computer.

The disk image for the disk where OS and all applications are installed.

Hi,

And how would you be able to apply a disk image on top of an existing
OS installation without the disk image wiping it out?

Hi, Torgeir. thank you.

Can I make the disk image installed on a disk partition, then applyed to
another disk partition when reinstalling OS?
