"/" as 1st character in a cell

I am having difficulties entering values in cells that begin with "/". Is
there some over-write that will let me enter these normally as part of a
text??

Several Methods:

1. Prefix the "/" with a single quote. The single quote will not be displayed
in the cell, but will tell Excel to treat the rest of the cell as a text
string.

OR

2. Tools/Options/Transition/Settings

Microsoft Office Excel Menu Key: <delete> the "/" or, if wanted, change it to
something else.
