Argument limit in Excel Function Wizard

I have a VBA function with 24 arguments but it doesn't display properly
in the Excel Function Wizard. However, it works OK if I reduce the
length of some of the argument names. From experimentation it appears
that there is a limit on the total number number of characters used
within argument names. Can anyone confirm this and tell me the exact
limit in Excel 2000 and later versions?

There's a section that covers this in the new book by Bullen and Bovey,
Professional Excel Development. In the technique described therein,
there is a limit of 255 characters, not just on the arguments, but on
the entire string needed to register the function.
