This is a question I'd like answered before I contemplate upgrading my
computer.

M$ is coming out with Windows 64 sometime in early 2005 (?) Would 32

*cough* Rephrase that to "M$ is coming out with an
Opteron-compatible 64bit windows sometime in early 2005" - since they
ALREADY have Windows 64, and have since 2001. For the Intel Itanium
processor - but it's 64bit anyway.
bit machines be able to run on Windows 64? What I fear is buying a
cheap 32 bit machine today only to find out 12 months down the line
that I have to upgrade to a 64 bit system YET again.

Why not buy a Macintosh G5 then?
Now I know you will say "what do you need the computer for, 32 is
fine..etc". But I want to buy a system that will be able to run
future software (the latest OS) i.e. 3 yrs down the road.

Wait 3 years then. There's NO guarantees.

Then again, if it does the job with Linux kernel 2.6 or XP on it -
why change the OS? Think about that - you don't fuss about changing your
car just because they now have hybrids. The old gas jalopy still runs ..
<B-)
I HAVE to keep up with the technology (especially in OS) since my job
depends on it. I can only buy that which lasts me a long time.

You're screwed, then.

Sucks to be you.

(Sucks to be me, also - I have to keep buying so I'm only a bit
behind the bleeding edge. But that's part of what it takes to do this job.
