Using Win XP- Having users is unnecessary for me & seems redundant. Can that
be removed so I am the only user?

If you are talking about removing the Group Users........are you not a user
and as such you would no longer exist??
If you are talking about removing an Individual User under Control
Panel/Users....feel free just make sure its not yours.

There are 3 user accounts that are standard with Windows XP and should
be left.
1. The actual account for the owner/user that is created during the
XP install and setup
2. A default hidden Administrator account that is normally available
only when booting in Safe Mode. This account is an essential "safety
valve" for fixing problems when the user's account becomes unusable.
3. The default Guest account which can be turned on and off via
Control Panel users but which otherwise should be left "as is".

You can use TweakUI
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp) to
configure Windows XP to automatically log you into a designated
account at startup, bypassing the user account selection screen.

Good luck

Having users is part of WinXP's topology. It is necessary.

Now, if your question is:

"Since I am the only user, do I have to have a login screen? It seems
unecessary and redundant."

....then, no, it can be disabled if there is only one user. (Well, actually
two users, counting the normally hidden "Administrator".)

You'll probably get the advice, even if you are a single user, to have two
userids: one with administrator rights and the other with just user
rights -- and to just use the userid with user rights for day to day use.
Thats generally good advice, although I admit to not practicing it. I just
use an admin userid because I'm confidently lazy.

There are some situations where, even as a single user, you would want
additional userids though -- such as for some services to run under.
