Are there any REAL "Microsoft experts" out there? Up for a challenge?

Desperately seeking answers!

I see my issue on here from several different people, yet
no replies with any validity! Are there any real experts
out there? This doesn't seem like that big of a problem,
yet I can't figure it out and no one will touch it.

BTW, if you have a Windows Networking connectivity issue
and you're getting this error message, try the 20 some od
things I tried and hopefully one will work for you!

Here it is:
"Workgroup Name is not accessible. You may not have
permission to use this network resource."

I've tried tearing the network down to nothing and
starting over. I've changed the names of the workgroup,
the users (admin priv's of course), the systems. I
removed the network device and recreated the whole
network using default settings. I stopped and started the
computer browser. I reset the router and reconfigured,
nothing. I used a 4 port hub to eliminate the linksys
befw11s4 router from having anything to do with it. I
checked the log for errors. Nothing good. Originally it
was 1 wired XP home PC and 2 wireless XP Pro laptops. I
have added another wired and another wireless laptop
(Win2k both) to no avail. I just added another wired
Win2k PC and am able to access it from the wireless
laptops and vice versa, but not the other wired PC.
Everybody can ping everybody right now. PLEASE PLEASE
PLEASE HELP!!!

What's the entire error? There should be something that follows that error.

I am not a "REAL Microsoft expert" as you put it, but the error message you report
often is the result of interference by some Firewall program.

I see nothing mentioned in all of your trouble shooting about any Firewall programs.
All third-party Firewall programs should be uninstalled during trouble shooting.
Also, the XP Internet Connection Firewall is only meant to be used on a single XP
computer for its Internet Connection and should not be enabled on any
Local Area Connection meant for file sharing between local computers.
You can check to see if the XP ICF is enabled by going to the properties of the
LAC and then the Advanced tab.

XPuser is the man (or the woman

one day everyone feared the internet and therefore everyone wanted to have firewalls: firewalls on top of firewalls on top of firewalls. End the madness, viz. I have a D-Link router (w/ firewall), I just installed winxp pro (built-in firewall), and I installed PC-cillin 2002 (w/ personal firewall). I turned off all the SOFTWARE firewalls and the problem was solved immediately- the D-Link is protection enough. And remember, my computer was only a day old. Think about all the firewalls you may have picked up along the journey

btw- I network win98 1st ed., xp pro, and win nt 4.0

"You can check to see if the XP ICF is enabled by going to the properties of the LAC and then the Advanced tab
in other words, network places, view connections, right click LAN or high-speed, properties, advanced

These tips should help you solve the problem:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/ic_firewall.htm

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot/netbt.htm

4. Run "ipconfig /all" on XP and look at the "Node Type" at the
beginning of the output. If it says "Peer-to-Peer" (which should
actually be "Point-to-Point") that's the problem. It means that the
computer only uses a WINS server, which isn't available on a
peer-to-peer network for NetBIOS name resolution.

If that's the case, run the registry editor, open this key:

HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters

and delete these values if they're present:

NodeType
DhcpNodeType

Reboot, then try network access again.

If that doesn't fix it, open that registry key again, create a DWORD
value called "NodeType", and set it to 1 for "Broadcast" or 4 for
"Mixed".
