are hyphens as good as underscores for file names?

I notice that PhotoShop Elements 2 automatically uses hyphens in image file
names instead of underscores. This seems fine in IE6. Will it cause problems
in Netscape or in older browsers? I can change them all to underscores if
so. TIA

Hyphens should be fine.
