I had outlook on an old computer that was pointing to an archive folder on an
external disk (it was big - I needed space).

I have installed outlook on a new computer and want to be able to see and
archive to that folder on the external drive.

How do I set up Outlook to look at and let me see this achive folder?

Thank you!!

New information:

I tried doing File > Data File Mgmt > Add and selecting the archive file,
but when i do that, it crashes outlook.

Is there a file size limitation? The archive file is 2GB.

If I copy them into a 'new' pst file type (2003 or 2007) - can it be more
than 2GB? (and will that address my problem)

That will cure any size issue. However it maybe that your archive has become
corrupt try running scanpst.exe, the repair tool, against your archive, does
it complete without err's?

You have to configure, within Outlook, the archive options to insure you are
archiving to the correct file/location
PS I would assume your new PC has a much larger hd, IMO you should archive
to a HD location, not external

So ... assuming the file is not corrupt, is creating a new PST file in the
new version and importing the old PST the correct methos to move an old
archive folder to a new install?

You create a new archive in 2007 by simply setting the archive option in
2007 to point to a new archive name, then archive and the new file will be
created. Or within OL File>New>Data file (Named appropriately) set this as
your data file in archive options.
Then open your old archive, within OL, and drag and drop data to the new
archive

Microsoft Outlook 2002 and earlier versions limit the size of Personal
Folders (PST) file to 2GB. Whenever the PST file reaches or exceeds
that limit, you will not be able to open or load it any more, or you
cannot add any new data to it. This is called oversized PST file
problem. More detailed information can be found at

You can use Advanced Outlook Repair to solve the problem, by either
converting it into Outlook 2003 format ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/convert-2gb-pst.htm
), or splitting it into smaller pieces ( http://www.datanumen.com/aor/problems/split-2gb-pst.htm
)

Advanced Outlook Repair.

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aor/aor.exe
