Applying Security Templates on XP via secedit

What is the best way to automate the updating of security
templates on standalone XP machines. We are curently a
netware shop that has over 400 XP workstations and need
to update the security templates to turn off Messenger
service and also to update local policies. I have tried
secedit and gpupdate but I seem to be struggling with teh
syntax.

Thanks....
I was on the write track but /verbose switch helped figure
out my syntax problem
