Apply .dot to existing .doc?

Word 2003, Windows XP

Is it possible to apply the formatting of a .dot to a .doc already created
without the original .dot? If so, how? (Other than manually changing
everything, I mean.)
 
Depends what you mean by "formatting." You can use Tools | Templates and
Add-ins to attach the template and check "Automatically update document
styles," but this will affect paragraph and font formatting only. If you
want the document to take on the section-level formatting (margins, paper
size and orientation, columns, header/footer, etc.), then you need to create
a new document based on the template and insert the old one in it.
