applications opening in notepad

OS:windows xp tablet pc edition
Hi my friend was using my tablet and he right-clicked on
an application and selected "open with....". When the box
came up he selected open with notepad. Now every time I
try to open an application it opens in notepad and the
notepad screen is covered in a jumble of number,letters
and symbols. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
 
Could you please help again.The reg file that you gave me
didn't work. I don't know if this helps but it is even
things like the volume buttom on the toolbar not just the
desktop apps.Please help

If this is recent, are you able to use restore to get back your
registry and settings from before the problem occurred?
start \ programs \ accessories \ system tools \ system restore

(Or any other backup you might have.)

You can download a variety of fixes from Doug Knox's website to
restore individual associations.
