Application Sharing Problems

I am trying to share an application with a colleague in Chicago. We are able
to connect via Messenger to communicate in real time by typing, but we cannot
establish a voice connection and we cannot establish application sharing,
which is what we really need to do to complete our project.

We can invite each other and accept invitations, but when either of us does
this, Messenger times out after trying to connect to the other person's
computer. We are both using Windows XP with the latest version of Messenger.
After we have invited and accepted invitations, as the computer is trying to
establish a connection, we can go to the Actions or Tools menu to open the
window that would allow us to see which applications we can share. However,
everything is greyed out and cannot be selected. When we open that window,
it says in the title bar: "Not in a call". But we can't even establish a
voice communication link.

We have tried playing with out firewalls and with our Anti-virus programs,
but we can't seem to make it work. I do have MSN on my computer, but I don't
really use it nor have I ever used MSN Messenger, which I understand may
cause a conflict. Do I need to remove MSN completely from my computer? Any
other suggestions of what we might try?

Thanks,
Chris
