Application Popups continue

I have tried just about everything I can think of to
remedy this situation. Everything points to a
"glaring fault " within the windows code, at the connection
detection area. There are about 3 to 4 services which
require a hot connection on startup. Currently windows
reports that it cannot find a connection in the
compatibility wizard, and update wizard stops the machine on
bootup.
Currently using a westell 327w router/modem for dsl with a
'hardware controlled' connection. I am able to access
Internet & email/news for regular duty. I am not able to use
auto update features from any program.
Microsoft pros are stumped.

I will be trying out Linux soon, to see if I run into the
same problem.

Equip: Self designed & built PC - Giga-byte GA7-zxe
motherboard with athlon xp 1.4ghz processor, 80gb western
digital hdd with 8 mb od cache,7200 rpm speed. 750mb sdram
pc133. running open office2 thunderbird, getright, firefox,
realplayer, quicktime, nero 6 oem sony ed.,perfect disk,
Norton systemwork 2006,news rover, helium 2 2005,midicat,
acdsee8, perl, python,c++ runtime refresh. just to name most
important apps.

One note about this case. When I reinstalled 2 weeks ago, I
decided to install clean with only the graphics driver and
card installed, and full mobo integration enabled. Upon
power down and power up, the application popups are still
there. It is the only time these are in log- cold bootup.

Can any one else give me an idea where a problem might be?

What exactly have you tried?

Really? "Glaring", eh? How come millions of other people don't have issues?
It is far more probable that you have a local problem with your machine.

What is the exact text of these error messages?

That's an excellent idea, one that I use all the time to determine if a
client's problems stem from the Windows installation or hardware. I like
Knoppix, but there are other live Linux distros. Use one and you can
determine this within a few minutes.

You still haven't told us what "application popups" are, the exact text of
these popups, or how you could have any "application popups" without any
applications installed.

Since you did a clean install and since you built the machine yourself, look
to the hardware. Do hardware troubleshooting, starting with swapping out
your NIC for a known-working one. If the present NIC is onboard, disable
it.
