Hi all,
Hopefully someone can halp, I have a Win2k server (not a DC) getting 8
events every 20mins! Source: AutoTrace, Event: 0. I have searched the
Knowledgebase with no joy, same for Eventid.net. The text of the error is as
follows:

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( AutoTrace ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be
able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and
Support for details. The following information is part of the event:
?????????????????????????????c.

In the actual eventlog the ? are small squares!

Thanks,

Eoin.

Eoin O'Beara,

Here is something you might check:

-----------------
AUTOTRACE:
We had a problem with AutoTrace, a third party package that Tivoli developers included in 411, it flooded the event log on the TMR server, to uninstall we were sent the following instructions...
C:\Program Files\Common Files>net stop atserv
The AutoTrace Runtime service was stopped successfully.
C:\Program Files\Common Files>atserv -uninstall
C:\Program Files\Common Files>erase atserv.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files>
Verify the registry entries for Autotrace are removed if they still
exists the remove them:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\atserv
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\atserv
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atserv
reboot
--------------

But I'll keep checking for other ideas.

Eoin O'Beara,

Simply means the developer provided a means to write to the event log, but
didn't provide a description for this event. Perhaps someone installed this
program. Check running services and or processes.
