Application Error

These are the error logs:

1. Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting
module PnEL.dll, version 2005.1.55.0, fault address 0x000470a4

I was opening the dell users guide when data exec prev DEP closed Windows
Explorer.

2. Fault bucket 00768015

This might have been when Dr Watson postmortem debugger was also closed by
DEP.

What can I do to prevent this? This happens everytime I access the control
panel.

What does PnEL.dll belong to? Searching on Google, it appears to be a part
of Earthlink's Total Access software which includes popup blocking and
anti-phishing features. If a fix is available, it would come from
Earthlink. Meanwhile, you could disable the feature to avoid the error
messages.

Another approach that you might try is to exclude this program from DEP.
Use System Properties> DEP to get to the screens that allow you to define
exclusions.

Excellent analysis Sharon. I was trying to figure out why DEP would close
windows and how that relates to Earthlink. A window did appear recommending
that I download an update from Earthlink. It did fix the problem. However I
wouldve wanted to take the logical path suggested by your response. Instead
I took a gamble. Oh well live and learn.

What about the bucket error? Was that the Dr Watson debugger shutting down?

Many thanks.

You didn't copy the whole error regarding the fault bucket here. Going by
what was posted here, it could have been Dr. Watson shutting down -or- it
could be the fault bucket associated with preceding PnEL.dll error. The
number is more useful to the folks that analyze errors on a programming
level (vs a user level).

Once in a while, you might be able to dig up info on a number from the MS
Knowledge Base or Google but the discussion is usually comprised of
"programmer talk." I'm not a programmer so it doesn't mean anything to me
other than something error related (a software fault) was measured and
recorded.
