.APE audio format questions

It would appear that many .APE files have several audio files combined into one. Is there any way
of dividing them up? I just downloaded some music files but they are combined into 1 .APE file.
The total length is several hours. How is one able to listen to a particular one of the group? And
why would anyone use such a format when OGG and FLAC are so popular?

Use this popular program to extract your music tracks.

"CUE Splitter is a freeware tool that split a single
big audio track, mostly an album or a compilation,
into the relative individual audio tracks, using
information contained in the associated "CUE" file."

Medieval CUE Splitter 1.2 MB (Freeware)

PS: APE is mostly used in Asia, FLAC in North America.
(I'm from Canada and I much prefer APE. Popular does not mean best! MP3, for example)
