AOL Removal

Have a Dell Computer that came preinstalled with XP Home & America Online.
Never used AOL & am not interested in ever using it. I have Road Runner &
use Outlook Express for mail. Can I safely delete All AOL programs in
Add/Remove Programs? Can't find anything through Dell.

Yes.

Absolutely and recommended. You can also remove those 30-day free trial
software programs also.

More evidence that Dell is going downhill.

Yes.

Can't find anything through Dell.

What do you mean by "through Dell"?

You can, and you should.

AOL may not, in fact, be installed at the present. Some of the programs and
icons on your desktop may be program installers. If you click on one by
accident (AOL hopes you do this) the install will start and you will not be
able to back out of it.. Getting it off your system, after the fact, is damn
near impossible.

It is one of the worst virus's around, when it comes to removal.

Yes, but I'm surprised if it is actually pre-installed. The above post
is more likely, but if you inadvertently did install, you would know it.
One of the characteristics of both AOL and Compuserve is they insist on
downloading a shit load (excuse the language) of files both during
initial install and then whenever the mood strikes them. Would be hard
to miss.

You can try. AOL is about as difficult to remove as Norton - the Lesser and
Greater Barnacles of the software world.

Does that include "Get High Speed Internet"? I already removed AOL &
Earthlink. Thanks. Now would like to get rid of "Get High Speed Internet".
Is that OK to do?

Thanks Richard for the heads up? I removed both AOL & Earthlink. Would not
like to remove "Get High Speed Internet!" Is that OK to do?

- Guys --
After removal of AOL & Earthlink - In event viewer I'm getting error event
7023 (Sourse: Service Control Manager) - Application Management Services
terminated with the following error - the specified module could not be
found. It's listed may times in the event viewer. Is there a hotfix? Is it
a registry problem? I really want to get rid of this error message but I'm
not all that great with this technical stuff. Please help!

You will find that add/remove will not get rid of everything AOL. You
will have to go into the registry to delete everything.

Absolutely! You already have an internet connection, right. Why would you
want to keep that one around. (-:

You did remove these programs by going to the add/remove window, right.

If you just deleted the files from Windows Explorer, you did NOT remove the
program. Now you may have problems doing so.

Come back with an answer please.

I did indeed remove the programs in "Add/Remove Programs". Silly me, I did
not restart the computer before writing you. When I restarted, I did not get
the "Specified Module could not be found" message. However, that was until I
turned on computer for the first time today. Got that message many times.
After restarting various times after that, never got it again. Here's hoping
it's not an ongoing thing. I'll keep you posted.

Ah! You've learned a primary lessen. If "anything" strange is going on with
your computer, turn it off. Then restart the computer. It amazing how many
problems this will solve.

The same goes for your printer or scanner. If it is not performing
correctly, shut down the computer. Then pull the power plug on the offending
device for about 2-3 minutes. Plug it in, power up the computer and try it
again.

Also, many procedures require a reboot to finish the job, but you are not
notified of this due to the way the program is coded.
