AOL access to the web

I have recently encountered a new problem while trying to use AOL to access
the web. I can successfully get AOL on line and do things like email within
the aol system. However, whenever I attempt to go on to the internet via
AOL, I get a message indicating the opeating system's firewall is preventing
AOL from function. I have checked the firewall's exception list to be sure
that AOL is listed. I have even tried it with the XP firewall turned off,
with the same results. Please advise.

Thank you.

1) Take the AOHELL CD

2) If you are old enough to drive, and have a licence, place it in the

middle of the drive and back over it several times.

3) If you are not old enough to drive - or don't have a licence - place

said CD in the microwave and cook on full power for a couple of minutes - it

really is fascinating, and most satisfying, to watch.

4) Place resulting mess in the rubbish

5) Pick up the phone, call AOHELL 'Customer Service' and tell them you

wish to cancel your account. Don't, however tempting it might be, let them
persuade you to stay with offers of 'free' months.

6) Ask people for recommendations for a proper ISP.

7) Call new ISP of choice and sign up.

There! Problem solved.

Unfortunately, removing AOHELL's trojanic software will, most likely,

require a complete format and reinstall.

Or, if you absolutely *MUST* use AOHELL (though for the life of me I cannot
think why...)

"If it hurts every time you poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick

(AOHELL), the obvious solution is to quit poking yourself in the eye with a

sharp stick (AOHELL).

If you absolutely MUST poke yourself in the eye with a sharp stick
(AOHELL),then feel free to seek assistance from the maker of the sharp stick
(AOHELL)."

This is a question for AOL tech support. Depending on what version of AOL
that you have installed, it may include a third party firewall (mcAfee?).
Perhaps you're configuring the wrong firewall?

I see. You did not mention 64bit XP in your original post. Great platform
but not fully supported in drivers and software at this time.

PS: There are newsgroups on the msnews.microsoft.com server that are
specifically for the 64 bit versions of XP. If you don't go back to the
32bit version of XP, you may want to visit those newsgroups for any other
xp64 questions you have.
