and how?

You need to locate the Personal Folder File (.pst) that was used by Outlook
2002. Search the harddrive for *.pst after making sure you are showing
hidden files and folders and showing extensions for known file types. If
you need to know how to make these changes let me know and I will send you
detailed instructions. After you find the file you can then import the file
into Outlook. It is possible when you reloaded XP that the .pst file may
have been overwritten and would then be unrecoverable.

I hope this information is helpful.

I did find two folders Outlook Archive and Outlook that are described as
containing mail and addresses. However through the Outlook import function I
can not get to these folders to import from them. I tried to find the
folders using the browse function but with no luck. So it appears the files
are there but I can't seem to find any way to access them in order to import
the old mail. Two questions, which folder would contain the old mail, and
where would I find them using browse? I even tried entering the folder
location but then I was told that I didn't have sufficient priviledge to open
the folder, but I am set up as system administrator. Help>

Don't import. In Outlook, go to File-Open-Outlook Data File, navigate to
where these files are, and open them!

By default the .pst file is stored in your Windows profile. Here is an
example path on WinXP, C:\Documents and Settings\<windows username
here>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst. If you
are trying to browse to the folder in Windows Explorer (My Computer) you
will need to make sure you are showing hidden files and folders. To do this
open My Computer and go to Tools->Options and select the View tab. On this
tab you should see Show Hidden Files and Folders, make sure it is NOT
checked also you can uncheck Hide File Extensions for Know File Types. If
you can't Import the file then I would definitely try the other suggestion
give which is to simply open the .pst file using File->Open->Outlook Data
File option in Outlook.

I hope this information is helpful.
