Okay, this is interesting. That Option, which solved the
original problem on my computer at work, is not listed as
an Option on my home computer. (I'm running Windows 2000
in both places.)
However, the whole reason I brought this up to begin with
is that months ago, when I altered that setting to fix the
IE problem, it seemed to clear up a number of other
problems as well. (Specificaly, visual problems with
Yahoo Messenger, and with ad bars blocking out web pages.)
I'm now having all these problems on my home computer, and
hoped changing that setting would fix them, but it's not
even an option here! Any ideas?

Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party browser extensions."
But, that indicates that another program is interfering with IE- probably a
spyware/parasite program. You should work through the solutions (CWShredder,
Ad-aware, Spybot) at
