Any security problems

Paul Milner

Hi
I Use frontpage 2003 with a database created and placed
in the fpdb folder by frontpage.
How secure are the files created by the database wizard,
the database results wizard, and the database created by
frontpage?
Thankyou

Hi thanks for replying
I use a company called fasthosts it is a shared windows
server, but it should be secure shouldnt it?
The database that front page creates is an Access
database will I have to set up security within access
(users and such)or did Frontpage deal with that when it
created the database?

If the database is mounted on the host server in a location that is not
within your website, then it is as secure as your host's server is. I think
you have to assume that this is pretty secure. By the way, I have not heard
good things about fasthosts in general (nothing to do with security,
though). Are you satisfied with them?

Hi
I havent had any cause to complain. Although it can take
you a while to get through to the support help lines.

If the extensions are configured correctly and the server itself is secure, then the database is
secure, as FP will set the necessary permissions on the fpdb folder and the Access database, however
the best security is when a host allows you to store the database outside of the web root, so even
if some can access the site in FP, they still can't access the database. Not many host do or allow
this.

While I can't say I've had experience with tons-o-hosts, the few that I've
hosted with have all allowed me to do this (insisted even). I guess it just
depends....

Those are the good host... at least in that regard.
