Any point in upgrading Epson 1640

I have the 1640 and it seems to do okay. But was wondering if a newer
scanner would improve the results. I have a ton of old photos to scan and
would welcome any recommendations also.

If you are just scanning photo prints, there is probably no reason to
update.

I upgraded last year from a 1640 to the 4870 and am very pleased with
the improvements and quality. I also scan old family photos. They
seem to have lots of defects and the benefits of ICE are really nice.
It reduces my post-scan editing time too.
