Is there any news on when SATA-III will come out and what it will off over
SATA-II.
I know current storage devices an not fast to even take advantage of SATA-II

The current version is 2.5, not 2. Speed was not the point of version 2.

SATA 1, 2, 3, 4, ???
This is one of the reasons that I haven't made any rush to replacing my
IDE (various) drives. There are no *compelling* reasons (yet) for me to go to
a new interface.

Indeed. No reason at all to replace wrking and adequete IDE
storeage. For new disks, SATA can be an option.

And a recommended option, too. Not for SATA's technical superiority,
but because PATA ports will tend to disappear in the future.

Agreed. And once the controller side is stable, it is basically
ATA with better cabeling and command set.
