Anti-virus/memory problem

I've been having some problem with my computer, and i was wondering if anyone
experienced the same problems and what they did to fix them.

When my computer is on for a few hours, it becomes unfunctionable, but
doesn't crash. Norton Anti-virus closes itself, and under the start menu,
All Programs is <empty>, When I try to open the control panel, my computer,
or task manager, I get an error that says I don't have enough memory to do
it. Also, when I shut down my computer, it doesn't have the usual shut down
menu, but it does look like an earlier version of Windows' shut down menu
with the drop down box.

I've tried running adaware, spybot search and destroy and full system scan
on norton antivirus. I found some spyware and removed it, but i'm still
having the problem. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I am running Windows XP Professional.

1) Download the following three items...

McAfee Stinger
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend signature files.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download SYSCLEAN.COM and place it in that directory.
Download the Trend Pattern File by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt345.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
SYSCLEAN.COM.

2) Disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
3) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode and shutdown as many applications as possible
4) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Stinger, perform a Full Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors found
5) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using both.
6) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any System Restore preferences,
(e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
7) Reboot your PC.
8) Create a new Restore point

I did what you suggested but am still experiencing the same problem. This
morning, i was actually surfing the internet when it happened. some strange
window appeared in the lower right hand corner of internet explorer and i got
an error for iexplore.exe. After that, everything started to fail. I
couldn't get into my control panel and norton antivirus closed itself.
that's when i restarted my computer. pLease help if you can. Thanks!
