I'd almost started to accept the idea of having a clumsy door on a computer
case and I like the clean look of the P180. But then they go and put the
power switch behind the door? What the hell?? Having to open the goddamn
door everytime I want to turn it on might be enough to go back to the P160.
What are your opinions.

I find it annoying on my antec slk3000 case, but it's a file server so I
rarely have to turn it on and off.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

I just remembered: they put it behind the door since the door is lockable.
But still then, there's room for improving the design (i.e. an external pwr
button that locks).

Mines behind door too. I went into the BIOS, Power Management and
assigned a Hot Key ot turn it on. To turn on my PC I simply press CTRL-
F1. It's powered down from the OS.

Nowadays, apart from the PC locking up, there is no need to use the
power button at all.

Nice. Do you know if this is this availabole on most current MB's? I've
been considering Asus p5's.

I own a P160 which, in my opinion, is a great case but I am considering
getting a P180 as it is supposed to be the best air cooled case around.

Cheers.

Excellent tip! I have the SLK3000, a very nice case with a flimsy
door that covers the power button. I know some Ethernet ports have
"wake up" signals that can be enabled in the BIOS too.

Doors on computer cases are a bad idea. Power switches behind
doors on computer cases are a really bad idea.

My best computer location is on the floor, to my right.
Doors that hinge on the left just get in the way for me, and USB ports
on the very bottom of the case are simply unusable.

And someone turning off a server is an even worse idea. Not to mention rug
rats.

Very generous of you to inform us of that. If you go to newegg and sort
the cases by the number of reviews, you will find that three of the four
most-reviewed (hence most popular) cases have doors.

Hey all you computer-case makers better hurry and snatch up this guy Al
.... he can help you make a fortune when everybody finds out the most
successful case makers and buyers have been getting it wrong for quite a
while now.

My door is not lockable.

My opinion is that I will *never* buy a case with a door.

Lots of people remove the doors once they realize what a PITA they
are.

If you happen to surf the Net using a server, in a public place,
where there are malicious people you cannot trust who have access
to your server, a door might be a sensible idea. For the average
computer joe, I don't think so.

As for the rug rat problem, I recommend putting down poison. It's
a more certain solution ... a more final solution, you might say
.... than laying down traps. Just be sure to drag the critters
outside before they start to decompose.

I know, I know, if only they'd listen to me. Think was a better
place the world would be.

This is also my view, but it's getting harder to avoid them. My
brother gave me one once, an Acer. Every time the CD tried to
eject, it would bang into the closed door and reverse itself.
Drove me nuts, until I gave back the computer.

I didn't see anything in the "Doors on computer cases are a bad idea" claim
that restricted the type of computer or it's use.
in a public place,

Even when servers are in a 'private' and restricted space many admins like
to have the further protection of doors and covered power switches.

One doesn't necessarily need 'malicious' intent to cause a problem.

I don't recall saying anything about 'average', or otherwise, either.
