Another USB Unreconized device

I have read thru all of the USB problems and still can not find a fix for my
front USB devices. I am running XP SP2 and I always get the unrecognized
device whn I use the front USB ports. The rear ports work fine except they
are 1.1. I have cleaned up the drivers (loaded the newest VIA software for
my motherboard) and even looked thru the registry for problem devices.
Nothing seems to work. I hate to back out SP2 because that would take me all
the way to the original XP, not even SP1. Any additional ideas.
Soyo motherboard. AMD XP processor with 512K memory
Thanks

I am sorry. I left out 1 piece of information. I always get the USB device
not recognized. So I amthinking the device is wired correctly. There is
only 2 ways the wires can go on. One way I get the unrecognized device, and
the other I get nothing.

Thanks

Dave

Check to BIOS. Some BIOSes have options to use USB 1.1 only and/or only
turn on the primary USB ports (rear).

Yves,

The BIOS appears to be correct. It does recognize the front USB. The only
time I get the message is when I plug in my flash drive or camera (the only
devices I have tried). I get the little pop up saying unrecognized device.
The BIOS is 2.0 and I have the VIA enhanced USB devices under my device
manager.

Thanks

check other usb devices on the ports... if only that one doesn't work then
maybe it's that usb device.

could be a bad motherboard or even a bad front port

Bad cables? Defective plug/receptacle (USB) on device or on front panel.
Without a substitution test you will never know!

Richard,

I have tried the cables and and the front connector on other machines &
everything is OK. This started with installing SP2. I would like to keep
SP2 if there is another fix out there. Also, if I uninstall SP2 is SP1 still
available??

Thanks

No. I always advised people to create a system restore point (if that have
previously installed SP1) before installing SP2 and then if they run into
problems they can restore back to SP1 because uninstalling SP2 also removes
SP1.
