another router problem

well i got me a router the other day and after several hours i got it working
the only thing is that i had to use my old modem that I had when i had
0.5Mbit connection because i couldnt get my new 8Mbit modem working with the
router,

the only reason i can think of why my 8Mbit modem wouldn't work with the
router is because it has a built-in PPPoE program or something that connects
to the internet and in the setup of the router it sais that i should
uninstall all PPPoE programs installed...

but, i get internet working on the old modem but the thing is that i dont
think the old 0.5Mbit modem can perform up to 8Mbit, i dont know =/

Does anyone know if it is because of built in PPPoE in the modem or should
it work, and should i continue suffering trying to install my new modem with
the router?

And does anybody know of any software i might use to check to see how the
old modem performs with the 8Mbit connection? at what speed

and I just have to say, windows XP forums are great =)

thanks in advance!!

Hi
It might be that your newer Modem is actually a Modem Router Combo.
Connect back the computer to the newer modem, find the IP that it gives to
the computer.
Put the Router on the newer modem and configure the Router's WAN Side to a
Static IP as given by the newer Modem (do not use the PPPOE setting of
Router).
