another right click problem

Since I have installed service pack 2, when I right click a desktop
item, I get an hourglass that just sits there. After 2 or 3 minutes the
hourglass goes away without anything happening. While the hourglass is
active, the comp is frozen and if I want to continue to work without waiting
I must shut down and restart. There are no error messages, just
a locked up desktop. I have tried many of the fixes here and many on the web
and cannot seem to stop the problem.
Thanks....phal

Since you haven't told us what fixes you've tried, I can't comment on
them. However, the problem may be caused by:

1. If you have DivX installed
2. If you have SpySweeper installed
3. Some other third-party program that has shell extension capability
(so you see it as a choice in the right-click menu).

I have been trying to solve this for most of the morning and have tried so
many tips it is hard to keep them straight. I can tell you:

Divx is not installed
Spysweeper is not installed
No third party programs appear on the right click menu
I have run Spybot S&D, Adaware, CWShredder and BHODemon before the SP2
install and since the install.
I have turned off the "Use the following transition effects for menus and
tooltips" in "Control Panel/Display/Appearances/Effects" per a suggestion
from somewhere.

Since this was noticed, has anyone been able to solve the problem? I have
read a lot of the posts concerning right click problems, but not all of them,
because the posted problems seem similar but not exact as I am not getting
any kind of error message.

Thanks for the reply Malke.....phal
