annoyed with Norton & help with search.vbs

I am annoyed with Norton. Over the last few years everytime it's found a
virus on one of my computers it fails to repair it. It also fails to
quaranteen it. It tries to delete it but I guess that fails too, because at
the the end I always get the same message: "you have not eliminated all
viruses. There are still infections remaining. " Then I get stuck doing
all kinds of research to get rid of the virus, and I'd like to spend my time
doing other things.

Are there any viruses that Norton can get rid of, as from my experience it
can't get rid of any.

What's the point of an antiviral program if it can't ever get viruses off
your computer? (or prevent them from coming onto your computer.)

Is this the case with McAfee or PC-cilling as I may just switch programs.

Right now I'm dealing with Search.vbs (a tojan adclicker virus according to
Norton) and as usual Norton doesn't clean my computer of it. Any ideas?
Spybot and Adaware didn't help get rid of it either - but at least I didn't
pay for these. I don't like having to play with the registry if I don't
have to. Isn't that why you but these programs - to get rid of viruses
easily?

Thanks for letting me vent.

What version of NAV are you using? Consider trying Norton Antivirus 2004 if
you aren't already doing so.

Could also try these....

Wow thanks!

Is it important to run the anti-spyware programs (and anti-viral) in the
safe mode? If a virus is found in the temporary internet files, does that
mean its safe just to delete the file? If I delete it, without playing with
the registry - will it regenerate itself?

Norton detects and PC Cillin too a file Search[1].cab in UVENMTUZ in
Content.IE5 in Temporary Internet files. Should I just delete the file?
Can I delete everything in Temp Int files and be safe? Do you think the
file will regenerate itself

PC cillin found it but can't delete the "infected contents" It asks should
it delete the whole file, but I'm afraid. Any suggestions?

Go into Internet Explorer and click on Tools. Go to Internet Options, In the
Temporary Internet Files section click on Delete Files and then OK. Then the
virus should be gone.
