Sorry I couldnt find a couple of very simple questions in the FAQ section,
can anyone hep here ...

I have 1.0 and 1.1 installed side by side, in what order should I apply the
Service Packs ?

Is a newer version of .NET Redistributable required for deployement of an
application made using the .NET 1.1 SP3 ?

Thank You in advance.

Note, I guess it's still the tech-preview FAQ....

I have 1.0 and 1.1 installed side by side,

this Framework versions are always installed side-by-side.

in what order should I apply the Service Packs ?

AFAIK any order should work,
maybe start with Fx 1.0 SP3, then Fx 1.1 SP1.

your .NET apps should work anyway.
This new .NET service-packs are AFAIK bug-fixes only.

I hope Microsoft will publish some details soon
regarding deployment / redistributing of this service-packs.

I don't know if there will be a 'complete' (slipstreamed)
redistributable 'dotnetfx.exe' with the service-packs included.

In past, the primary distribution vehicle for .NET service-packs
was Windows-Update.....

My install of 1.0 went OK. I have three files in my temp directory

Thanks, Jeffrey.

Me and SYSTEM have full permissions on the TEMP folder. The error code
(from the log file) is 1603. It seems to be related to RPC operations.
So I tend to think that it's again an XP SP2 problem (already had RPC
rpoblems with XP SP2).

Strangely enough, re-installing the .Net Framework 1.0 SP2 works without
a hitch on the same system. So I guess I don't have any permission
problem or whatever. In that case, I can see how the Temporary folder is
created and how the installation program unarchives the installation
files there.

So the SP3 installer must have something special.

Hello!

I have been waiting for Microsoft to fix this error:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834608

However, it seems like I'm still using the old 1.1 framework or the patch
somehow failed during installation (and didn't notify me). I have been
looking at the files in the .NET framework directory and none of the files
seems "touched" after 20th of july.

Any ideas? Are we supposed to run some executable after installing the .NET
1.1 SP1 patch (unlikely, but I'd better ask)?

Thanks in advance!

..NET 1.1 SP1 was built on Juli 15th so this is quite normal.
To check the version you have now, you can chech the version number of the
files by reading their properties from the explorer.
All new files should read Version 1.1.4322.2032.

WIlly.

Hi Patty

Say if I'm a developer, do I have to install it on my own development PC, or
every PC running the framework that's got a .NET application installed, for
it to take effect?

this service-packs are for the .NET Runtime,
thus must be deployed to every PC to take effect.
(similar like a Windows service-pack)

I guess this .NET service-packs will be on Windows-Update soon.

Anybody else having this problem?

---------------------------
Microsoft Development Environment
---------------------------
The Web server reported the following error when attempting to create or
open the Web project located at the following URL:
'http://localhost/WebApplication1'. 'HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error'.
---------------------------
OK Help
---------------------------

I get this error now when trying to create a new web project since I
installed .NET 1.1 SP1. I had thought it might had been XP SP2 related, but
I just did a test and it occurs immediately after installing .NET 1.1 SP1
(my test image doesn't have XP SP2 applied yet).

Thank god for Ghost.

thus uninstalling the .NET SDK & documentation could help.

I also needed to reinstall software that depends on the SDK. Took me 3
hours!

I will never install that documentation update again. I think this SP was
not tested well enough and I doubt next updates will work with the
doc-update. I won't try it.
