I am in MS Office PowerPoint XP and the Animation Schemes on the Task Pane
are grey. What do I do to gain accesiblity to them? All suggestions are
appreciated...

Have you highlighted or "clicked on" the object you want
to animate?

Is it possible the newer features of PPT have been disabled? To check, open
PPT and go to Tools--> Options, Edit tab. See if any of the bottom three
boxes are checked. If so, un check them, exit PPT and re-enter. Your
animation schemes should re-appear.

(FYI: Animation schemes are applied to the whole slide. Doesn't matter if
something is selected when you access the pane or not.)
