analogue capture-(public respond)-help

I am trying to capture vhs media. Bought a ADS instant
USB capture device and it keeps freezing or else the
video wavers- on my Pentium 4 -512mb memory with 60
gigs. Have read Papa Johns webs site for alternatives.
Alot of devices out there. Not enough money to try them
all. Asking for feedback from others as to what is the
best device out there that they would really recommend
that doesn't freeze on them and has a decent quality
video.
