You work for MicroSoft?

I don't care if this NG goes to the next galaxy, point in fact Windows
is a pain period. At the same time I'm not going to the headache of
learning LINUX or any other OP system that will run on a PC.
I do reserve to the right to bitch however.

Isn't that rather like visiting only the repair shop of an automobile
dealer, and then concluding that the dealer's products are worthless?
Or going to a doctor's office and concluding that everyone in the world
is ill or injured? You're coming to a incorrect conclusion based upon a
statistically insignificant sampling.

There are hundreds of millions of WinXP installations world-wide, and
yet only a very few thousand people have problems? And, to be perfectly
frank, most of the problems we see here are self-inflicted, not flaws
inherent (which admittedly exist, but are insignificant) in the OS.

Thank you Bruce.
Granted there are a lot of users who have no problems in my own case
I was having a mostly problem free system. If you saw my other post
all I did was test a video card and now I can't run my system.
I'm posting from my other much OLDER system.
So of course I'm pissed.

Having been one of the original CO beta testers for Win 95 (16 floppy disks
at the beginning) -and traveling along with the ride since then - An
observation: There are few "live" problems with the OS - compared to the
MANY
problems caused by the occupant between the chair and keyboard. Another
thought: If you were to parse, say twenty, requests for assistance probably
half or more,
with slight difference in semantics, are repeats for the same info.
I sorry I started this thread.

I haven't seen you're other post, but, based on the above, I'd have to
go with the concept of "cause and effect." It sounds like either the
insertion of the new video card caused a hardware problem, or its
drivers caused a software problem. Either way, this is hardly the fault
of the OS.

Actually,
I come across many people with these sorts of problems, but only a tiny
fraction will ever use newsgroups such as this one- most just pay to get
the problem fixed, or live with it until the system crashes completely.

The point is, Windows is marketed to millions of people with ZERO
knowledge of computers who nevertheless need a PC to function
effectively. Granted an operating system is an incredibly complex piece
of software, but surely a company with the resources of Microsoft could
put more resources into user-friendly diagnostic and management tools,
instead of flashy bells and whistles. Easy to use is one thing, but
easy to maintain should be at least as important.

That, or impose all sorts of restrictions on what users can actually do....
